An electric stove sized for a moka pot

The IKAPE portable electric ceramic stove is an electric stove for moka pot brewing. It is 16 cm across and 6 cm high, heats by infrared from an 800 W aluminium heating plate, and its power runs from 70 W to 800 W.

Three presets set the heat and the time without any manual watt setting: P4 runs for 4 minutes and suits 2-cup moka pots, P8 runs for 8 minutes for 4-cup pots, and P12 runs for 12 minutes for large-capacity pots.

Power and timer, set by touch

The touchscreen panel sets the power anywhere from 70 W to 800 W. From 70 to 400 W the timer runs up to two hours, which IKAPE suggests for slow tea brewing. From 500 to 800 W it counts down up to 20 minutes.

What it can heat

Infrared heating does not need magnetic cookware, as induction does. IKAPE lists flat-bottomed, heat-resistant cookware up to the stove's diameter: aluminium and stainless steel moka pots, glass teapots, ceramic ware, cast iron and stainless steel milk warmers.

Stove only or with a moka pot

Stove only: the stove on its own, in black or white.
Stove and moka pot: the same stove in black or white, with a 4-cup moka pot in pink or green.

How to use it

Stand the stove on a dry, level surface with space around it for the cooling fan in the base.
Centre the pot on the glass-ceramic top.
Choose P4, P8 or P12 for a moka pot, or set the wattage by touch for anything else.
Let the top cool completely before you touch, move or store the stove.

Materials and care

The top is a glass-ceramic panel, which IKAPE describes as heat-conducting and resistant to high temperatures and to abrasion. Under it sits the 800 W aluminium heating plate, and a cooling fan in the base carries internal heat away.

Spilled coffee or tea wipes off the cold panel. IKAPE warns that residual heat stays on the glass after use: do not touch it until it has cooled completely.
