A mini scale with four modes

The IKAPE SC35 is a mini coffee scale with timer and four modes: basic weighing, pour-over weighing, pour-over brew ratio and espresso. It weighs up to 2 kg and measures 10.1 × 10.5 × 1.9 cm, and IKAPE describes it as compact and lightweight.

What each mode does

Basic weighing: weight only, for dosing beans or grounds.
Pour-over weighing: tares automatically so the display counts the water going in.
Pour-over brew ratio: calculates the ratio of coffee to water automatically.
Espresso: times and weighs the shot automatically.

IKAPE states that the timer starts by itself in the espresso and pour-over modes, so you need no phone or separate timer.

Accuracy in two bands

IKAPE gives two accuracy figures. From 0.3 g to 1 kg the scale reads to 0.1 g, which covers dosing beans and grounds. From 1 kg to 2 kg it reads to 1 g, for larger volumes of water.

On the bar

IKAPE describes the platform as scratch-resistant and easy to clean, and the base is non-slip silicone. A silicone cover protects the charging port from dust and moisture. The scale runs silently and switches itself off to save power, and IKAPE describes the LED display as large, bright and easy to read.

How to use it

Charge it through the port under the silicone cover before first use.
Switch on, put the cup or the dripper on the platform and select the mode.
Tare, or let the pour-over mode tare itself once the vessel is on.
In espresso mode, start the shot and let the scale time it; read the yield in the cup.
Wipe the platform dry and close the port cover before putting it away.

Materials and care

Wipe the platform with a damp cloth and dry it. Do not run the scale under a tap or leave it standing in a wet drip tray, and keep the port cover closed.

IKAPE recommends charging from a 5 V, 1 to 2 A adapter. Keep the platform free of grit, since anything trapped under it works against the load cell.
