A small scale for espresso and hand brewing

The IKAPE V1 mini coffee scale reads 0.1 g from 0.3 g to 2000 g, with a built-in timer, automatic tare and three modes. IKAPE states that it suits small espresso machines such as De'Longhi and Breville, and that the mini is smaller, lighter and more portable. In IKAPE's photos it measures 95 × 89.5 mm and 18.6 mm high.

Three modes

Normal: shows the time and the weight.
M1, hand brewing: shows the ratio of coffee to water and the weight of the coffee.
M2, espresso: shows the time and the weight of the liquid in the cup.

The three modes can be switched freely, and the timer is built into the scale.

Reading down to 0.1 g

The range runs from 0.3 g to 2000 g in 0.1 g steps, so the same scale weighs an espresso dose and a full pour-over. IKAPE states that the built-in timer helps you keep each cup consistent and that the automatic tare gives an accurate reading every time.

The silicone mat

The scale comes with a silicone mat that IKAPE describes as heat insulating, waterproof and non-slip, to protect your coffee tools. It lifts off for cleaning. The bottom of the scale is non-slip as well.

How to use it

Charge the scale, then set it on a flat, dry surface with the silicone mat on the platform.
Switch it on and pick the mode before you put anything on it.
Place the cup or the portafilter on the mat and tare.
Start the shot or the pour, and read the weight and the time together.
Lift the mat off to wipe it, and dry the platform before you put the scale away.

Materials and care

Wash the silicone mat with water. Wipe the scale with a damp cloth and do not rinse it under a tap.

Keep the platform free of grit and dried coffee, because anything trapped under it presses on the load cell and the readings drift. Recharge the battery before it runs flat.
