The IKAPE scale V2 is a coffee scale for espresso and drip coffee. IKAPE builds the body from aviation aluminium with no plastic in the structure, and tops it with a smooth glass panel that it states is waterproof. Its photos call the panel mirrored tempered glass. The scale measures 12.8 × 11.8 × 2.0 cm.

Three modes

Normal: shows the time and the weight.
M1, hand brewing: shows the ratio of coffee to water and the weight of the coffee.
M2, espresso: shows the time and the weight of the liquid in the cup.

The three modes can be switched freely, and the timer is built into the scale.

Reading down to 0.1 g

The range runs from 0.3 g to 2000 g in 0.1 g steps, so the same scale weighs an espresso dose and a full pour-over. IKAPE states that the built-in timer helps you keep each cup consistent and that the automatic tare gives an accurate reading every time.

The silicone mat

The scale comes with a silicone mat that IKAPE describes as heat insulating, waterproof and non-slip, to protect your coffee tools. It lifts off for cleaning. The bottom of the scale is non-slip as well.

Seven colours

The V2 is sold in black, silver, gold, purple, cyan, red and blue, all at one price.

How to use it

Charge the scale, then set it on a flat, dry surface with the silicone mat in place.
Switch it on and pick the mode before you load the platform.
Put the cup or the portafilter on the mat and tare.
Start the shot or the pour, and read the weight and the time together.
Lift the mat off to wash it, and wipe the glass panel dry.

Materials and care

Wipe the glass panel and the aluminium body with a damp cloth, and wash the silicone mat with water. Do not rinse the scale under a tap.

Keep grit off the panel, because anything trapped under it presses on the load cell and the reading drifts.
