A stability line for your pour
The IKAPE V3 is an aluminium coffee scale about the size of a palm. Besides weight and time, it shows a stability line that moves while you pour, displaying how much water has gone in and how steady the flow or the espresso extraction is. The body is cut from one piece of aluminium alloy, with a glass top.
Three modes
- P1, pour-over: records how much water goes in and how long it takes.
- P2, ratio: everything P1 does, plus the powder-to-water ratio worked out as you pour.
- E, espresso: starts on its own and records the extraction time and the weight of the espresso once the extraction is stable.
The scale also has regular weighing and timing, so it works as a plain scale too.
What the stability line is for
IKAPE describes the line as a real-time display of the water going in and of the steadiness of the espresso coming out, and suggests using it to practise a steady water flow when you brew.
Charging and size
IKAPE's photos show a USB-C charging port and give up to 90 days on a single charge, with auto sleep. The same photos measure the scale at 92 × 88 × 13.5 mm.
A note on the box
IKAPE states that a printing error left some boxes labelled "V2 coffee scale" while the scale inside is the V3. The V3 has the aluminium alloy body and the ribbed edge, both visible on the unit itself.
How to use it
- Set the scale on a flat, dry surface and switch it on.
- Select P1, P2 or E before you put anything on the platform.
- Place the server or the cup on it and tare.
- Pour, or start the shot and let espresso mode begin its own timing.
- Watch the stability line while you pour, and read the totals at the end.
Materials and care
IKAPE states that the casing is one-piece CNC aluminium alloy with a glass mirror surface on top. IKAPE's photos also show a non-slip silicone mat over the glass.
Wipe the scale with a damp cloth and never rinse it under a tap, because water that gets inside can damage it. Keep coffee and grit off the top, where they can make readings drift, and use nothing abrasive on the aluminium.
