A needle stirrer with an adjustable angle

This is a WDT tool with magnetic stand, a needle stirrer that breaks up the clumps a grinder leaves in the dose, before you level and tamp. IKAPE states that the needle and stand design allows a maximum angle adjustment of 120 degrees, and says this makes the tool more comfortable to use.

Two needle diameters in one box

Six 0.4 mm needles come fitted. The box adds two spare sets of 304 stainless steel needles: six at 0.25 mm and six at 0.4 mm. IKAPE says the 0.25 mm needles stir ultra-fine grounds more easily for a smooth extraction, and the 0.4 mm needles break up lumpy grounds for a more uniform dose. To change a set, unscrew the head of the handle.

The stand holds it by magnet

Between shots the tool goes back on its own stand and holds there by magnet. IKAPE states that the magnetic stand and the tool stick well.

How to use it

Choose the needle set for your grind and screw the head back on.
Adjust the angle until your hand sits comfortably over the basket.
Lower the needles to the bottom of the dose and stir in small circles for a few seconds.
Lift the tool out slowly, then level and tamp.
Put the tool back on its magnetic stand.

Materials and care

IKAPE names 304 stainless steel for the interchangeable needles.

Rinse the needles when grounds dry between them and let them dry before the next shot. Keep the spare sets in their packaging so the fine needles do not get bent in a drawer. If a needle bends, swap it for a spare instead of straightening it.
