A cast aluminium moka pot for the stove

The IKAPE aluminium moka pot is a stovetop coffee maker for gas and electric stoves, with a body of thickened cast aluminium. IKAPE states that it brews strong, full-bodied coffee, and describes it as compact, portable and lightweight, for the home kitchen, the office, camping, travel and picnics.

Heat builds steam pressure in the base, and the pressure pushes the water up through the coffee in the funnel and into the top chamber. IKAPE describes the thickened cast aluminium as hard and resistant to oxidation, and states that the one-piece build resists deformation and rust.

Which stoves it works on

The pot is made for gas and electric stoves. IKAPE states that it is not suitable for induction cookers.

Handle and valve

The handle is heat insulated and flame retardant. IKAPE states that it stays cool while the pot brews, so you can hold it and pour without scalding your hand. A built-in safety valve releases excess pressure by itself during brewing; keep it clear and never cover it.

Choose the right size

  • 2 shots: sold as the temperature-controlled version, in green, pink or purple. In IKAPE's photos this size stands 198 mm (7.79 in) tall on an 89 mm (3.5 in) base.
  • 4 shots: sold as the standard version in green or pink, and as the temperature-controlled version in pink. In IKAPE's photos this size stands 250 mm (9.84 in) tall on a 104 mm (4.09 in) base.

How to use it

  1. Fill the base with water up to the valve, no higher.
  2. Fill the funnel with ground coffee and level it without tamping.
  3. Screw the top on firmly and put the pot on a low to medium heat.
  4. Take it off the heat as soon as the flow turns pale and starts to gurgle.

Materials and care

The body is thickened cast aluminium and the handle is heat insulated. Let the pot cool before you take it apart, then rinse the three parts with warm water and dry them before you store them. Each time you use it, check that the safety valve is clear and that the gasket still seals.
