The air comes out at the press of a button
The IKAPE electric vacuum bean canister is a vacuum coffee canister for 250 g of beans with a built-in electric pump. Instead of pressing a hand pump again and again, you press a button and the pump draws the air out in one go. IKAPE states that one evacuation holds the vacuum for 72 hours without venting.
A display for days and temperature
A digital display shows how many days the beans have been stored once you start the day counter, and the approximate temperature inside the canister. You can switch the temperature between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
Working the two buttons
- Left button: releases the pressure so the lid can be opened.
- Right button, one press: wakes the screen; with the screen lit, another press starts or stops the vacuum.
- Right button, double press: switches the always-on screen mode on or off.
- Right button, three presses: changes the temperature unit between Celsius and Fahrenheit. Celsius is the default.
- Right button, held 3 s: starts the day counter; held again, it resets the count to zero.
- Right button, held 8 s: switches the unit off and resets it; a short press switches it back on in its default state.
Beans, tea and more
IKAPE states that the canister also keeps tea, nuts and biscuits, and that it can be used to store other food in the kitchen.
How to use it
- Fill the canister with beans and close the lid fully.
- Press the right button once to wake the screen, then again to start the pump.
- Hold the right button for 3 s to start counting the days.
- Press the left button to release the vacuum before you open the lid.
- Run the pump again each time you have taken beans out.
Materials and care
IKAPE states that the canister is made of food-grade high borosilicate glass and plastic, with a non-slip silicone pad underneath to stop it tipping. Wash the glass by hand and keep the part that holds the pump and the electronics out of water. Dry the canister fully before you refill it.
