The IKAPE Rainbow bottomless portafilter has a pressed-wood handle and a fine-hole stainless steel basket that holds 16 to 18 g. A bottomless portafilter with a pressed-wood handle
The IKAPE Rainbow is a bottomless portafilter with a pressed-wood handle and a stainless steel basket that holds 16 to 18 g. It comes in five versions, one of them a De'Longhi Dedica bottomless portafilter for the EC680 and EC685. With no spouts, you watch the underside of the basket while the shot runs.
An even stream means the puck is sound. A jet running off to one side means the water has found a channel through the coffee, and you see it as it starts.
The basket that comes with it
Each portafilter ships with a stainless steel filter basket with fine holes, which IKAPE says filters the ground coffee more evenly and efficiently. IKAPE states the basket holds 16 to 18 g of ground coffee.
The handle
IKAPE describes the handle as wood slabs compacted in a strong press, as hard as solid wood, with no visible signs of compression, and smooth and pleasant to the touch. In IKAPE's photos the handle shows layered bands of red, blue, green and yellow. Because it is wood, IKAPE notes that the colour can differ slightly from the photos.

How to use it
- Warm the portafilter under the group head before the first shot.
- Dose 16 to 18 g, distribute the grounds and tamp level.
- Lock it in, start the pump and watch the underside of the basket.
- Keep the cup close under the basket; a failed puck sprays sideways.
- Knock the puck out, rinse the basket and dry the handle.
Materials and care
The handle is pressed wood and the basket is stainless steel. Wash the basket by hand, wipe the handle with a damp cloth and dry it. Keep the wooden handle out of the dishwasher.
