Replacement pads for IKAPE knock boxes
These silicone tapping pads are an IKAPE knock box rubber replacement: they take the place of the pad that the portafilter strikes. They come in three shapes and in packs of two or three pieces of the same pad. IKAPE describes the silicone as durable and long-lasting.
Choose the same shape
IKAPE's instruction is to choose the same shape as the original pad in your box. The three shapes are listed separately:
- Square: the square pad.
- Semi-circular (ABS box): the half-round pad for the ABS knock box. IKAPE's photos show it at 6.5 cm across.
- Semi-circular (wood box): the half-round pad for the wooden knock box. IKAPE's photos show it at 7 cm across.
How to use it
- Take the old pad out of the knock box and keep it for comparison.
- Check that the new pad has the same shape and width as the old one.
- Wash and dry the place where the pad sits, so that no grounds are left under the new pad.
- Fit the new pad the way the old one sat, and check that it lies flat.
- Knock once without a puck to check that it holds.
Materials and care
IKAPE states that the pad is made of durable silicone for long-lasting use. The photos show it in black.
Take the pad out when you wash the knock box, rinse both sides and let it dry before you refit it. Replace it when it goes hard, splits at an edge or no longer sits flat.
