Two steps of puck prep in one set

The IKAPE puck screen and dosing cup set pairs a 316 stainless steel puck screen with a black dosing cup, sold per basket size: 51, 53 or 58 mm. You grind into the dosing cup, so the coffee lands in a cup and not across the portafilter. After tamping, the puck screen goes on the bed.

What is in the set

  • Puck screen: a 316 stainless steel screen that sits on the tamped coffee. IKAPE states that it spreads the water evenly, helps against channeling and keeps the shower screen clean by stopping grounds from sticking to the machine.
  • Dosing cup: a black cup that catches the ground coffee under the grinder and tips it into the portafilter in one move, so the dose stays off the counter.

Choose the right size

  • De'Longhi Dedica and other compact 51 mm machines.51 mm
  • Sage / Breville machines with 54 mm baskets, including Barista Express, Barista Pro, Barista Touch and Bambino Plus.53 mm
  • standard 58 mm baskets on E61 group machines, Gaggia Classic, Rancilio Silvia, Lelit, ECM, Profitec and La Marzocco.58 mm

The set is sold per basket size.

How to use it

  1. Put the dosing cup on the scale, tare it and grind into it.
  2. Tip the cup into the portafilter, then break up any clumps and level the bed.
  3. Tamp, then lay the puck screen flat on top of the coffee.
  4. Lock the portafilter in and start the shot.
  5. Knock the puck out with the screen, rinse both parts and dry them.

Materials and care

The puck screen is 316 stainless steel, which IKAPE chose, in its words, for greater reusability and good filtration. Rinse the screen after every shot so coffee oils do not dry on it, and wipe out the dosing cup before it takes the next dose, because coffee left in the cup makes the next dose stick to the walls.
