Three seats on four non-slip feet
This IKAPE station is a solid shabili wood block with three holes, for the tamper, the distributor and the portafilter. It comes as a tamper station 54 mm, which also takes 51 mm portafilters, or in a 58 mm version. IKAPE states that its four non-slip feet stop it slipping and make tamping steadier.
A nut for the height
IKAPE states that a nut on the station allows free height adjustment, so you can press the coffee steadily with less wobble. The station also has a slot design for storing espresso accessories, and the tamper stands in its own hole within reach while you work.
Choose the right size
- 51/54 mm: IKAPE specifies this version for 51 mm to 54 mm portafilters and names 51 mm De'Longhi and 54 mm Sage / Breville portafilters.
- IKAPE specifies this version for 58 mm portafilters and names Gaggia, E61 and Rocket. IKAPE states that it does not fit Crema or Rancilio portafilters.58 mm
Size and weight
IKAPE gives the same size and weight for both versions: 6.5 × 5.7 × 2.9 in, about 16.5 × 14.5 × 7.4 cm, and about 2.8 lb (1.3 kg). IKAPE adds that the feet keep the block from wearing and make pressing less effort.
How to use it
- Stand the block on a dry, flat surface beside the grinder.
- Adjust the nut for your portafilter, then set the portafilter in its seat.
- Grind, distribute and tamp straight down.
- Put the tamper and the distributor back in their holes and brush the wood clean.
Materials and care
IKAPE states that the station is made of pure natural solid shabili wood, and notes that the colour of the wood varies from batch to batch.
Wipe the block with a barely damp cloth and dry it at once. Never soak it or put it in a dishwasher, and let a rinsed portafilter drain before it goes back into the seat.
