A hand grinder from Turkish coffee to French press
The IKAPE V2 KM7 is a hand coffee grinder for espresso and other brewing methods. The grind adjustment is internal, and IKAPE states that its scale covers Turkish coffee, espresso, drip coffee and French press. It grinds up to 25 g of beans per fill.
A 38 mm seven-sided burr
The burr measures 38 mm and has a seven-sided cutting structure in high-hardness 420 stainless steel. In IKAPE's photos it is a conical set, an inner cone that turns inside an outer ring. IKAPE states that the seven-sided structure grinds efficiently with less effort and cuts the beans quickly and evenly.
Two bearings on the shaft
Two high-precision bearings keep the grinding shaft concentric. IKAPE states that this stops the shaft from shaking or drifting during the grind, so the grounds come out consistent, and that even grounds extract evenly and help avoid channeling.
What the V2 changed
- Magnetic catch bin: a stepped inner clamp, which IKAPE states stops the bin from falling off when a palm touches it during grinding.
- Transparent lid: a plexiglass top cover that keeps beans from jumping out and lets you watch the grind.
- Polished adjustment dial: 304 stainless steel, which IKAPE describes as food-grade, with a ceramic sand surface. IKAPE states that it adjusts smoothly and precisely without jamming.
How to use it
- Lift the transparent lid and add up to 25 g of beans.
- Set the internal dial to the grind you want and refit the lid.
- Turn the crank at a steady pace until the resistance disappears.
- Pull the magnetic bin off and tap it before you empty it.
- After cleaning the burr, check that the zero position is back on gear 1.
Materials and care
IKAPE names 420 stainless steel for the burr and 304 stainless steel for the dial. Brush the burr and the chamber out dry instead of rinsing them.
IKAPE notes that the factory zero is gear 1. After the burr is taken out, cleaned and refitted, the zero can land on gear 8; turning the burr 180° and fastening the grinding core again brings it back to gear 1.
