A scale that works with the IKAPE Cafe app
The IKAPE V2 Pro is a Bluetooth coffee scale: a built-in module connects it to IKAPE's own app, IKAPE Cafe, for iOS and Android, which shows the brewing data in real time. You can also operate the scale and choose its functions from the app. The scale's own screen shows the same data.
Three modes
- Regular: automatic timing and weighing, reading to 0.1 g.
- Pour over: the brewing curve in real time, with the coffee-to-water ratio and the brewing time.
- Espresso: set a target weight in advance, and the scale beeps when the espresso reaches it.
The data from all three modes appears both on the scale and in the app.
The brewing record
The app lets you record each brew: the beans, the roast level, their freshness, the water temperature, the dose, the brewer and how the cup tasted, with your own notes. IKAPE describes these records as a way to repeat a brew you liked or to change it the next time.
The body and the display
The housing is CNC-machined from one piece of aluminium alloy, and the panel is high borosilicate glass. IKAPE states that the scale is equipped with an anti-scald silicone piece. The display is a touch-sensitive OLED, and a physical power button sits on the side.
How to use it
- Charge the scale, then switch the physical button on the side to on.
- Open the IKAPE Cafe app and connect the scale over Bluetooth.
- Choose the mode, place the cup or server on the scale and tare.
- For espresso, set the target weight first and stop when the scale beeps.
- Switch the side button off after use.
Materials and care
Wipe the aluminium and the glass with a damp cloth, and do not rinse the scale under a tap.
IKAPE gives 15 to 20 days of standby per charge from the 1500 mAh battery, and notes that a fast charger over 30 W is not needed. Switch the side button off after use: IKAPE warns that otherwise the scale keeps drawing power after the screen goes dark, which shortens battery life.
