IKAPE V3 Espresso Puck Screen, 0.8 mm (51 / 53.3 / 58.5 mm)

The IKAPE puck screen V3 is a reusable 0.8 mm screen of food-grade 304 stainless steel that lies on top of the tamped coffee. IKAPE states it spreads the water evenly, and that it has the same thickness as the V2 in a different design. Sizes 51, 53.3 and 58.5 mm.

The V3 puck screen, 0.8 mm thick

The IKAPE puck screen V3 is a reusable screen of food-grade 304 stainless steel, 0.8 mm thick, that lies on top of the tamped coffee. IKAPE states that the V2 and the V3 have the same thickness and a different design, and does not detail the difference.

IKAPE describes the screen as light and states that it spreads the water evenly over the coffee and protects the group head. IKAPE's diagram puts the side it calls the big-aperture side on top, where, IKAPE says, it divides the water more quickly.

What changes in the routine

Dose, distribute and tamp as usual, then lay the screen on last. It comes out with the puck, so the only new step is a rinse under hot water.

In IKAPE's photos the 51 mm and 58.5 mm screens carry their diameter etched near the rim.

How to use it

  1. Dose, distribute and tamp the coffee level.
  2. Lay the screen flat on the bed, centred in the basket, with the big-aperture side facing up.
  3. Lock the portafilter in and start the shot.
  4. Knock out the puck with the screen on it, then rinse the screen under hot water.

Materials and care

The screen is food-grade 304 stainless steel. Rinse it after each shot and wipe it dry, because coffee oils that dry inside the holes clog them. Soak it in a coffee cleaning solution about once a week and brush it through, then rinse it well before the next shot.
