Four tools in one diameter

This IKAPE tamper and distributor kit brings the four puck-prep tools together in one size: a funnel to grind into, a distributor to level with, a tamper to compress with and a mat to work on. The tamper is the V4 calibrated palm tamper; IKAPE's other four-part set is built around the V3 tamper.

What is in the set

  • V4 calibrated palm tamper: spring-loaded calibration inside the body and a scale on the outside. IKAPE states that every puck is compressed with the same pressure.
  • V1 gravity distributor: it uses gravity to adapt to the height of the coffee, so you do not set it by hand for each dose. You rotate it to level the bed.
  • V3 magnetic dosing funnel: a non-embedded funnel that holds to the basket magnetically and leaves more room in the basket. IKAPE states that it prevents grounds from spilling while you grind and stir.
  • Silicone tamping mat: food-grade silicone and non-slip. IKAPE states that it protects the portafilter and the worktop from scratches and knocks, and gives the tools a place to stand.

How to use it

  1. Put the mat down and stand the portafilter on it.
  2. Snap the funnel onto the basket, grind the dose into it and stir if you use a WDT tool.
  3. Take the funnel off and rest the distributor on the rim, turning it until the bed is flat.
  4. Tamp straight down until the spring releases, then lift the tamper off without twisting.

Materials and care

IKAPE names food-grade silicone for the mat. The tools come in black or silver.

Wash the mat in warm water and dry it flat. Wipe the metal tools with a damp cloth and do not soak them, because the tamper holds a spring inside its body. Brush the funnel out while the grounds are dry, and keep all four tools dry between sessions.
