IKAPE V4 Rotary Adjustable Portafilter Stand, 51 to 58 mm

The IKAPE V4 portafilter stand is a machined aluminium dock for 51, 54 and 58 mm portafilters, bottomless or spouted. A rotary chamber fits the portafilter body and an adjustable leg holds the handle level, so WDT, levelling and tamping are hands-free. IKAPE excludes De'Longhi two-ear portafilters.

A stand that holds the portafilter level

The IKAPE V4 is a portafilter stand for tamping: an aluminium dock that you adjust once to your own portafilter. The inner chamber rotates to the diameter of the portafilter body, a leg under the handle sets the height, and IKAPE states that the dock then holds the handle completely horizontal.

Rotary chamber, adjustable leg

Two adjustments do the work. The rotary slider opens or closes the clamping chamber until it clears the portafilter body, with the inner silicone pad sitting flush. The support leg then carries the handle, and a fixing screw through one of two holes locks the setting.

What it fits

IKAPE gives the stand as taking 51, 54 and 58 mm portafilters, bottomless or spouted, and says it is shaped to fit De'Longhi 9-Series portafilters. IKAPE also states that De'Longhi two-ear portafilters are not compatible with it.

Hands-free puck prep

With the portafilter locked in the cradle, IKAPE states that WDT distribution, levelling and tamping can all be done hands-free. The silicone pad on the top rim protects the portafilter ears from scratches and metal-on-metal wear, and the high-friction silicone base keeps the stand anchored to the counter while you tamp.

How to use it

Turn the rotary slider until the chamber clears the portafilter body, with the inner silicone pad flush.
Lay the portafilter in horizontally and choose the first or the second screw hole, tightening the fixing screw loosely.
Re-adjust the slider until the body is held with no wobble.
Set the support leg under the handle, then tighten the fixing screw fully.
Dose, distribute and tamp with the portafilter locked and level.

Materials and care

IKAPE names a CNC-machined aluminium alloy body with an anodised matte black finish, anti-slip silicone padding on the top rim, which IKAPE calls food-grade, and a silicone base.

Wipe the body with a damp cloth and dry it. Brush loose grounds out of the chamber instead of rinsing the whole stand, keep abrasive pads away from the anodised surface, and check the fixing screw from time to time, since a loose screw lets the setting shift.
