A steam lever for the Gaggia Classic Pro and Evo that fits over the stock steam knob. A ring slides onto the knob and a removable handle screws into it, pressing a red pad against the knob. A steam lever for your Gaggia Classic
The stock steam knob of the Gaggia Classic Pro and Evo is small, and it gets warm while you steam milk. This lever fits over it and gives you a 108 mm handle, so you open and close the steam valve with a light push instead of twisting a hot knob.
Fits over the stock knob
The lever has two parts: a ring and a removable handle. The ring slides over the original steam knob. A lip inside the ring sits on the rounded tip of the knob, so the lever always sits at the same depth. The original knob stays on the machine, and you can take the lever off at any time.
The handle is the clamp
Screw the handle into the ring, clockwise. As it goes in, a red pad at its tip presses against the knob. Two small ribs inside the ring hold the knob from the other side, so it is gripped at three points and the lever turns the valve without slipping.
The handle seats flush on the ring, which sets the pressure on the pad, so you cannot overtighten it.
Stays put
The last turns of the thread are slightly tighter, so the handle does not work loose while you open and close the valve. When you unscrew the handle, the red pad stays in its tip.
Steam mark and grip
A steam symbol is debossed on top of the ring, so you can see at a glance which way the lever points. The handle has twisted flutes for grip and a rounded end. The lever clears the side panel and the steam wand all the way round.
How to fit it
- Make sure the machine is off and the steam knob is cool.
- Slide the ring over the stock steam knob until its lip sits on the tip of the knob, with the steam symbol facing up.
- Screw the handle into the ring, clockwise, until its shoulder sits flush on the ring.
- Turn the lever to open the steam valve and back to close it, as you would turn the knob.
Materials and care
The ring and the handle are 3D printed in matte black PETG, which copes with the warmth around the steam knob better than PLA. Like any 3D printed part, they show fine layer lines on the surface. The pad is red TPU, a soft flexible plastic. Wipe the lever with a damp cloth. Do not put it in the dishwasher.
