IKAPE V6 Impact Tamper, Regular Handle (51 to 58.35 mm)
The IKAPE V6 impact tamper with regular handle stores force in a reservoir spring and releases it into the base. IKAPE states that about 6.8 kg (15 lb) from your palm reaches the coffee as at least 13.6 kg (30 lb). It has the larger spring of the two V6 versions. Sizes 51, 53.3 and 58.35 mm.

Less hand force for the same force on the puck
The IKAPE V6 is an impact tamper: a reservoir spring holds force and releases it into the base. IKAPE states that about 6.8 kg (15 lb) of hand force gives at least 13.6 kg (30 lb) on the coffee. This version has a longer handle and larger spring than the Mini; IKAPE recommends it for medium and light roasts.
How the reservoir spring works
IKAPE compares the V6 with a regular calibrated tamper, whose 30 lb push spring needs the full 13.6 kg (30 lb) from your hand. The V6 keeps its reservoir spring loaded while it is not being pressed. When you press, the mechanism releases and the stored force drives the base into the grounds as one impact.
A handle for the palm
IKAPE designed the handle for a palm press. It increases the contact area between the handle and your palm, so you press with the whole hand and your fingers do not have to push. IKAPE states that with the same force, the larger area makes the press feel easier.
Regular handle or Mini
IKAPE builds the V6 in two versions, which differ in shape and in the reservoir spring. The regular handle is longer, so it takes a larger spring and delivers a stronger impact than the Mini. IKAPE recommends the regular version for medium and light roasts and the Mini for medium and dark roasts.
A threaded base
The base has large threads and leaves a distinct thread pattern on the puck. IKAPE states that this gives a larger contact area during extraction and improves extraction efficiency.
Choose the right size
- De'Longhi Dedica (EC685 / EC885) and other compact 51 mm machines.51 mm
- Sage / Breville machines with 54 mm baskets, including Barista Express, Barista Pro, Barista Touch and Bambino Plus.53.3 mm
- 58.35 mm: standard 58 mm baskets on E61 group machines, Gaggia Classic, Rancilio Silvia, Lelit, ECM, Profitec and La Marzocco.
How to use it
- Dose into a dry basket and break up clumps with a WDT tool or a distributor.
- Stand the portafilter on a tamping mat or in a station.
- Set the tamper flat on the coffee and press with your palm until the mechanism releases.
- Lift it straight off without twisting.
Materials and care
Wipe the base after use and dry it. Do not soak the tamper, because the reservoir spring and its release sit inside the body. Brush the threads out while the grounds are fresh.
