A wooden base for the tamping tools

The IKAPE 4-in-1 base is a wooden tamper station that keeps your tamper, distributor and portafilter basket in place on the bench. IKAPE lists its four parts as "an espresso tamper holder, coffee distributor holder, portafilter basket holder, and Latte art pitcher". It stands on four non-slip feet.

Two woods, two layouts

The station is sold in South American walnut and in Canadian maple, and IKAPE's photos show a different design for each. The walnut base measures 240 × 191 × 22 mm. It has round seats of 60, 60 and 92 mm, a black half-round pad and slots along one edge.

The maple base has a walnut stripe and measures 220 × 190 × 20 mm. It has two 60 mm seats, a square metal plate and a black half-round pad. IKAPE's written description gives a single size of 22 × 19 × 2 cm and a weight of about 750 g (1.65 lb).

Feet and stability

Four non-slip feet under the base stop it from slipping and protect the table from wear. IKAPE states that tamping on the base is steadier and takes less effort, and it sells the station for 51, 54 and 58 mm tools.

How to use it

Set the base on a dry, flat surface within reach of the grinder.
Stand the tamper and the distributor in their seats.
Put the basket in its seat when it is out of the portafilter.
Brush loose grounds off the wood at the end of the session.

Materials and care

The base is natural wood: South American walnut, or Canadian maple with a walnut stripe. Wipe it with a barely damp cloth and dry it at once. Do not soak it or put it in a dishwasher, and let a wet portafilter or basket drain before it goes back on the wood.
