A stand that folds down to a disc

The IKAPE foldable stand holds a portable espresso maker nozzle-down over the cup. It is built from three parts, a base, a height-adjustable central axis and a holder ring, and IKAPE designed them to fold together into a disc of 138 × 100 × 32 mm for carrying.

Height that follows the cup

The central axis adjusts over a range of 45 mm, from 103 mm to 148 mm in use, for espresso cups of different heights. IKAPE states that the extra height also leaves room for an electronic scale under the cup, and that the stand works as a holder for some pour-over drippers.

How to use it

Unfold the base, raise the central axis and seat the holder ring on top.
Set the height so your cup slides under the nozzle with a little clearance.
Lower the prepared machine into the ring, brew head down, and place the cup underneath.
Start the extraction and leave the machine in the stand until it finishes.
Lift the machine out and fold the stand back into a disc.

Materials and care

The stand is made of aluminium alloy, which IKAPE describes as rust-proof and corrosion-resistant, and the whole assembly weighs 280 g. IKAPE describes it for use at home and on camping, hiking and fishing trips.

It holds no coffee and no water, so it needs only a wipe with a damp cloth. Dry it after a wet trip before folding it away, and keep grit out of the folding joints.
