It heats its own water

The K2 Pro has a built-in heater and a 13 500 mAh battery. It heats 60 ml of cold water to 93 °C in about 3 minutes. On one charge IKAPE gives 6 to 8 shots from room-temperature water, or more than 400 cups when you fill it with hot water. IKAPE states that it extracts medium-light, medium, medium-dark and dark roasts.

Set the shot from your phone

The K2 Pro has a Bluetooth module and connects to a companion phone app. In the app you set the pre-soak time, the water temperature and the extraction time, so you can match the settings to the beans and the grind. IKAPE developed the K2 Pro together with Ceraplus.

Size and weight

The K2 Pro weighs 820 g and measures 22.4 × 7.6 cm, about the size of a thermos, so it fits in a backpack. It comes with a standard stand or a foldable stand, depending on the option you choose.

Dialling in your shot

• Use fresh medium-dark roast beans, roasted within the last 40 days, for a richer crema. IKAPE does not recommend pre-ground coffee.
• Dose 18 g for a double shot; the basket takes 18 to 20 g. For a single shot you need a single-shot basket, sold separately.
• Use the grind size you would use on a semi-automatic machine and avoid grinding too fine. If no espresso comes through, go coarser.
• About 15 to 20 ml of water stays in the machine, so 50 ml gives roughly 30 to 35 ml of espresso. IKAPE recommends 60 ml; the exact yield depends on the extraction.
• Never tamp an empty basket: it tapers downwards and the tamper can jam.
