IKAPE Gravity Distributor, Wooden Handle (51 to 58.35 mm)
The IKAPE gravity distributor has a wooden housing and a weighted block of 304 stainless steel, titanium-plated in black, that drops as you turn the tool, so there is no depth to set. In 58.35 mm it is a coffee leveler 58 mm machines can use; 51 mm fits De'Longhi and 53.3 mm Sage / Breville.

A distributor that finds its own depth
The IKAPE gravity distributor levels the coffee in the basket with a weighted block that drops as you turn it, so there is no depth to adjust first. It has a wooden housing and comes in 51, 53.3 and 58.35 mm; the 58.35 mm size makes it a coffee leveler 58 mm machines can use.
What distributing fixes
According to IKAPE, static, lumps and the way the basket was filled often leave the ground coffee high in the middle and low at the edges, or loose in some places and tight in others. Turning the distributor spreads the coffee evenly, removes bumps and lumps on the surface and makes the density of the bed uniform, IKAPE states.
The gravity block
IKAPE states that the block is food-grade 304 stainless steel, titanium-plated in smoked black, and that it drops while the tool spins, levelling the coffee at its own depth. With a traditional distributor you would set the depth first.
Choose the right size
- De'Longhi Dedica (EC685 / EC885) and other compact 51 mm machines. IKAPE names De'Longhi for this size.51 mm
- Sage / Breville machines with 54 mm baskets, including Barista Express, Barista Pro, Barista Touch and Bambino Plus. IKAPE names Sage / Breville for this size.53.3 mm
- 58.35 mm: IKAPE's size for 58 mm portafilters: E61 group machines, Gaggia Classic, Rancilio Silvia, Lelit, ECM, Profitec and La Marzocco.
How to use it
- Grind into a dry basket and settle the grounds with a light tap.
- Rest the distributor on the basket and let the block drop.
- Turn it two or three times, keeping it level on the rim.
- Lift it straight off and tamp, then brush the base clean.
Materials and care
IKAPE states that the gravity block is food-grade 304 stainless steel with titanium plating in smoked black, and that the housing is wood.
Keep the wood dry: wipe it, never soak it, and keep the tool out of the dishwasher. Brush the base while the grounds are fresh, and keep abrasives away from the plated block, because worn plating cannot be restored.
