IKAPE Hantom Bottomless Portafilter (54 and 58 mm)
A Sage bottomless portafilter from IKAPE's Hantom series: the 54 mm version fits the BES870, BES878 and BES880, and IKAPE states it does not fit the Bambino or Bambino Plus. A bottomless portafilter with a dark wooden handle
The IKAPE Hantom is a bottomless portafilter with a dark pressed-wood handle and a stainless steel basket with fine holes. The 54 mm version is a Sage bottomless portafilter for the BES870, BES878 and BES880; two 58 mm versions fit E61 groups and 3-ear group heads.
With no spouts, the coffee leaves the basket in view. An even stream means the bed is uniform; a jet running off to one side means the water has cut a channel, which points to the grind or the distribution.
The basket that comes with it
Each version comes with a stainless steel filter basket with fine holes, which IKAPE says filters the ground coffee more evenly and efficiently.
The dark handle
IKAPE describes the Hantom handle as wood slabs compacted in a strong press, as hard as solid wood, with no visible signs of compression, and smooth and pleasant to the touch. IKAPE's photos show it in dark striped wood. Because it is wood, IKAPE notes that the colour can differ slightly from the photos.
Choose the right size
- 54 mm, Sage / Breville: BES870, BES878 and BES880, Barista Express, Barista Pro, Barista Touch and Duo-Temp Pro. IKAPE states it does not fit the Bambino or the Bambino Plus.54 mm

How to use it
- Warm the portafilter under the group head before the first shot of the day.
- Dose, distribute and tamp level; with no spouts an uneven tamp shows at once.
- Lock it in, start the pump and watch the underside of the basket.
- Keep the cup close under the basket, because a failed puck sprays sideways.
- Knock the puck out, rinse the basket and dry the handle.
Materials and care
The handle is pressed wood and the basket is stainless steel. Wash the basket by hand, wipe the handle with a damp cloth and dry it. Keep the wooden handle out of the dishwasher.
