IKAPE UniPress All-in-One Distributor and Tamper (51–58.35 mm)
The IKAPE UniPress is a coffee distributor and tamper in one: as you press, the base turns and three vanes level the grounds while the push compresses them. IKAPE recommends it for medium-dark and dark roasts in slow-flow baskets. It is sold in 51, 53.3 and 58.35 mm.

Level and press in the same movement
The IKAPE UniPress is a coffee distributor and tamper in one tool. As you press down, the base rotates and its three vanes level the grounds; at the same time the downward push and the weight of the base compress them. IKAPE recommends pressing about three times.
What it presses with
The press is spring-loaded, and IKAPE gives no calibration figure. IKAPE compares the combined pressure of your push and the base with the roughly 20 lb (9 kg) of a traditional tamp, and recommends moderate pressure.
Roasts and baskets
IKAPE limits the tool in its own text. It recommends medium-dark and dark roasts and advises against light, medium-light and medium ones; with a medium or medium-light roast it says to use a tamper as well. It recommends slow-flow baskets, such as standard or convex stepped baskets. With a high-extraction, fast-flow basket, a separate tamper is still required.
Choose the right size
- De'Longhi Dedica (EC685 / EC885) and other compact 51 mm machines.51 mm
- Sage / Breville machines with 54 mm baskets, including Barista Express, Barista Pro, Barista Touch and Bambino Plus.53.3 mm
- 58.35 mm: standard 58 mm baskets on E61 group machines, Gaggia Classic, Rancilio Silvia, Lelit, ECM, Profitec and La Marzocco.
How to use it
- Grind a medium-dark or dark roast into a dry, slow-flow basket.
- Rest the UniPress on the basket rim and press vertically with moderate pressure.
- Repeat the press about three times, keeping the tool upright each time.
- Lift it straight off, and follow with a tamper if you are using a lighter roast or a fast-flow basket.
Materials and care
Brush the vanes clean while the grounds are fresh and wipe the base with a damp cloth. Do not soak the tool, because the press mechanism and the rotating base sit inside the body.
