Wet tools stand above the water

This IKAPE coffee bar mat is a 399 × 299 mm silicone draining mat with a honeycomb surface. IKAPE states that the honeycomb stops water pooling under the items and keeps them raised above the water, so baskets, cups, puck screens and filters can dry beside the sink or the machine.

Also a counter mat

IKAPE gives the same mat as a protector for kitchen worktops and bar counters, for tea equipment as well as coffee equipment. IKAPE describes the silicone as soft and anti-slip: the mat lies snugly on the counter and does not slide, which also spares the surface from wear. At 399 × 299 mm, several items fit side by side.

A note on the name

IKAPE sells this as a water filter mat, meaning a mat that drains the water coming off wet equipment. It does not filter drinking water.

How to use it

Lay the mat flat beside the sink or the machine, honeycomb side up.
Stand rinsed baskets, cups, filters and portafilters on it and leave them to drain.
Tip the collected water into the sink when you clear the bench.
Rinse the mat, shake it out and let it dry.
Roll or fold it away when the worktop is needed.

Materials and care

IKAPE names food-safe silicone and states that it is free from bisphenol A. The mat is 8.5 mm thick and black.

A rinse is enough for daily cleaning. Let the mat dry before rolling it, because a mat rolled wet keeps its water in the folds. Keep it away from knives and anything abrasive. IKAPE gives no heat rating, so do not use it as a trivet for a hot pan.
