The three steps before the shot, in one order
This IKAPE tamper and distributor set covers puck preparation in the order you work: break up the clumps, level the bed, then compress it with the same force each time. IKAPE names clumping, uneven distribution and inconsistent tamping as the problems it addresses. The tools share one diameter and one matching finish.
What is in the set
- V6 Impact Tamper Mini: a spring-loaded, constant-pressure tamper. IKAPE states that it releases with a click at 30 lb, about 13.6 kg, of vertical force every time.
- Double-bearing distributor: IKAPE describes a double-bearing design that glides across the grounds and leaves a level surface for the tamp.
- V3 springback rotary WDT tool: in the three-piece option only. IKAPE states that its fine needles break up clumps and that the springback rotary head stirs the grounds from top to bottom.

How to use it
- Grind into the basket, then stir with the WDT tool in small circles until no clumps are left.
- Set the distributor on the rim and turn it until the bed is level.
- Press the tamper straight down until it clicks, then lift it off without twisting.
- Wipe the rim and lock the portafilter in.
Materials and care
The tools in the set share one matching finish. Wipe the metal parts with a soft damp cloth after use and keep them dry.
Do not soak the tamper, because it carries a spring inside its body. Rinse the WDT needles when grounds build up between them, and stand the tools somewhere dry.
