IKAPE V3 Calibrated Tamper, All Black (51 to 58.35 mm)
The all-black version of the IKAPE V3 calibrated tamper. Its main spring is calibrated at 30 lb (13.6 kg), a second spring keeps the tamper balanced as you press, and the centre shaft is cylindrical. IKAPE gives it a titanium-plated black bottom. Sizes 51, 53.3 and 58.35 mm, for 51, 54 and 58 mm baskets.

The V3 calibrated tamper in all black
This is the all-black version of the IKAPE V3 calibrated tamper, sold in 51, 53.3 and 58.35 mm. IKAPE gives the tamper its black bottom by titanium plating. Inside are two springs: the main one is calibrated at 30 lb, and the second keeps the tamper balanced while you press.
Dual springs, set to 30 lb
The main spring is calibrated at 30 lb, about 13.6 kg, which IKAPE gives as the pressing pressure. The second spring keeps the tamper balanced during the press, and IKAPE states this prevents an unbalanced tamp. An angled tamp leaves one side of the bed looser, and water runs through it.
A cylindrical centre shaft
IKAPE states the V3 has been improved many times and now uses a cylindrical centre shaft for smoother pressing. IKAPE describes the handle as ergonomic, shaped for a comfortable grip and a balanced force.

- 58.35 mm: standard 58 mm baskets on E61 group machines, Gaggia Classic, Rancilio Silvia, Lelit, ECM, Profitec and La Marzocco.
How to use it
- Dose into a dry basket and break up clumps with a WDT tool or a distributor.
- Stand the portafilter on a mat or in a station so it cannot rock.
- Press straight down with your palm until the spring gives, then stop.
- Lift the tamper off without twisting it.
Materials and care
IKAPE names food-grade 304 stainless steel and aluminium alloy as the tamper's materials, and titanium plating for the black bottom. Wipe the face after use and dry it. Do not soak the tamper, since the springs sit inside the body, and keep abrasive pads and scouring cream away from the plated surface.
