A walnut handle on a coated steel base
The IKAPE V4 is a walnut espresso tamper that you press with the palm. It has a natural walnut handle and a base of food-grade 304 stainless steel, finished black with a PVD titanium coating. IKAPE sells it in 51, 53.3 and 58.3 mm, for 51, 54 and 58 mm portafilters.
A dual-stage spring at 30 lb
IKAPE states that the built-in dual-stage spring gives 30 lb, about 13.6 kg, and stops the tamper being pressed sideways. You press gently and the spring sets the force.
The palm grip
The handle is a cylinder, so the middle of your palm does the pressing, and the top is concave. IKAPE states that this shape makes pressing easier and more comfortable.
The coated base
IKAPE states that the PVD titanium coating makes the base more resistant to corrosion and more durable, and that it reduces static, so less coffee sticks to the base after each use. The coating also gives the base its black colour. IKAPE states that the base leaves a flat concentric ring pattern on the coffee.

How to use it
- Dose into a dry basket and break up clumps with a WDT tool or a distributor.
- Stand the portafilter on a mat or in a station so it cannot rock.
- Set the middle of your palm on the concave top and press gently straight down until the spring gives.
- Lift the tamper off without twisting it.
Materials and care
IKAPE names food-grade 304 stainless steel for the base, natural walnut for the handle and a PVD titanium coating on the base.
Keep the wood dry: wipe it, never soak it, and keep the tamper out of the dishwasher. Keep abrasive pads and scouring cream off the coated base, because a scratched coating cannot be restored.
