A knock box and tool station in one
The IKAPE V5 is an espresso knock box station: a wooden organizer with a removable knock box on its left side and places for your puck-prep tools. IKAPE lists it as 9-in-1, for the tamper, distributor, portafilter basket, coffee brush, puck screens, dosing funnel and knock box. It is not compatible with Rancilio portafilters.
What the station holds
- Tamper and distributor: two round wells, 55 mm across on the 51 / 54 mm version and 58 mm on the 58 mm version.
- Portafilter: a seat 61.5 mm across on the 51 / 54 mm version and 70 mm on the 58 mm version.
- Brush, puck screens and dosing funnel: two round holes of 24 and 36 mm, two slots 52 mm long and one slot of 71 × 26 mm.
- Knock box: removable, so it can be taken out and cleaned on its own. IKAPE's photos give it about 1.7 L, enough for 18 shots.
IKAPE's photos show these nine places and give both organizer versions as 235 × 228 × 90 mm.
Choose the right size
- 51 / 54 mm: IKAPE specifies this version for 51 mm and 54 mm portafilters, as on the De'Longhi Dedica and Sage / Breville machines with 54 mm baskets.
- IKAPE specifies this version for 58 mm portafilters. E61 group machines, the Gaggia Classic, Lelit, ECM and Profitec use them.58 mm
- Metal knock box only: the knock box from the station, sold on its own without the wooden organizer. In IKAPE's photos it measures 146 × 133 mm.
IKAPE states that the station is not compatible with Rancilio coffee machine portafilters.
Feet and handle
Four non-slip feet under the base stop the station from slipping and protect the table from wear. IKAPE states that tamping on it is steadier and takes less effort, and that its handle lets you lift the knock box out easily.
How to use it
- Set the station on a flat surface near the group head.
- Lift the knock box out by its handle and check that it sits back square.
- Knock the spent puck into the knock box.
- Put each tool back in its own place.
- Empty and rinse the knock box at the end of every session.
Materials and care
IKAPE describes the body as solid natural walnut and the knock box as stainless steel; in its photos the knock box is black. Wipe the wood with a barely damp cloth and dry it at once. Never soak it or put it in a dishwasher, and wash the knock box on its own.
