IKAPE V6 Impact Tamper Mini, Short Handle (51 to 58.35 mm)
The IKAPE V6 impact coffee tamper Mini is a short impact tamper for a palm press: a spring stores force and releases it into the threaded base. IKAPE supplies 6.8 kg (15 lb) and 13.6 kg (30 lb) trigger springs and states the 15 lb spring gives over 13.6 kg on the coffee. Sizes 51, 53.3 and 58.35 mm.

A short impact tamper for a palm press
The IKAPE V6 impact coffee tamper Mini is the short version of IKAPE's V6. It has no constant-pressure spring: a spring inside stores force, and your press releases it into the base as an impact. IKAPE recommends the Mini for medium and dark roasts; the regular V6 has a longer handle, a larger spring and a stronger impact.
How the impact works
A conventional calibrated tamper uses a constant-pressure spring, so 13.6 kg (30 lb) on the puck takes 13.6 kg from your hand. Inside the V6 a spring is held offset. When you press down, the offset is corrected and the spring is released, and the base strikes the coffee with enough force to form the puck.
Two trigger springs
The tamper comes with a 6.8 kg (15 lb) and a 13.6 kg (30 lb) trigger spring. The trigger spring does not press the coffee: it sits at the top, and pressing it resets the spring that drives the base. IKAPE states that with the 15 lb spring a gentle press gives more than 13.6 kg (30 lb) on the coffee.
Threaded stainless steel base
IKAPE states that the tamper is made of food-grade 304 stainless steel and aluminium alloy, with a stainless steel base. The base has large threads that leave a clear pattern on the puck, and IKAPE says this increases the contact area between coffee and water for a more even extraction. IKAPE also states that the base comes up clean after the impact.
Choose the right size
- De'Longhi Dedica (EC685 / EC885) and other compact 51 mm machines.51 mm
- Sage / Breville machines with 54 mm baskets, including Barista Express, Barista Pro, Barista Touch and Bambino Plus.53.3 mm
- 58.35 mm: standard 58 mm baskets on E61 group machines, Gaggia Classic, Rancilio Silvia, Lelit, ECM, Profitec and La Marzocco.
How to use it
- Dose into a dry basket and break up clumps with a WDT tool or a distributor.
- Stand the portafilter on a tamping mat or in a station.
- Set the tamper flat on the coffee and press gently with your palm until it releases.
- Lift it straight off.
Materials and care
Wipe the base after use and dry it. Do not soak the tamper, because the springs and the release sit inside the body. Brush the threads out while the grounds are fresh.
