Pocket WDT Tool
A pocket WDT tool for espresso. Seven 0.30 mm needles, one in the centre and six around it, reach 40 mm below the tool. They load from the top under a screw-on crown, and a screw cap closes the tool into an 89 × Ø23 mm capsule for a pocket or a bag. It is 3D printed in matte black PLA and has no magnets.

A WDT tool that closes for your pocket
This pocket WDT tool breaks up clumps and spreads the ground coffee in the basket before you tamp. Its seven needles of 0.30 mm reach 40 mm below the tool. When you have finished, the cap screws on over the needles, and the tool closes into a capsule of 89 × Ø23 mm for a pocket or a bag.
Seven fine needles
One needle sits in the centre and the other six stand in a ring around it. All seven are 0.30 mm needles, and they reach 40 mm below the tool.
Needles that load from the top
The crown at the top of the tool unscrews, and the needles drop in from above. Each needle has a handle that sits on a narrow throat inside the body, so the needles cannot fall out of the bottom. Once you screw the crown back on, it closes over the handles.
A screw cap for the pocket
The cap screws on over the needles and covers them. Closed, the tool is a capsule of 89 × Ø23 mm that you can carry in a pocket or a bag.
Three printed parts, no magnets
We print the tool in three parts: the body, the crown and the cap. The grip on the body carries 16 spiral grooves, and the Black Tamp logo is on the end of the cap. There are no magnets in the tool.
How to use it
- Unscrew the cap from the needle end.
- Hold the tool by the grip and stir the ground coffee in the basket with the needles.
- Lift the needles straight out of the coffee and tamp.
- Screw the cap back on over the needles before the tool goes back in your pocket or bag.
To load the needles, unscrew the crown, drop the needles in from the top and screw the crown back on.
Materials and care
The body, the crown and the cap are 3D printed in matte black PLA, and like any 3D printed part they show fine layer lines on the surface. Clean the tool with a dry brush or with air. Do not put it in the dishwasher.
