Spirograph WDT Tool for Cafelat Robot
A spirograph WDT tool made for the Cafelat Robot basket. Five planetary gears carry 11 needles of 0.30 mm on a new path with every turn of the cap, and four turns per dose stir the puck evenly. For doses up to about 20 to 22 g. Matte black PLA.
- Support in English and six more languages
Gears do the stirring
This Cafelat Robot WDT tool breaks up clumps and spreads the ground coffee in the basket before you tamp. You turn the cap, and five gears, a sun gear and four planets, carry 11 fine needles through the coffee bed. Each needle draws a spirograph curve, and every turn of the cap lays a new pass.
One turn stirs 76% of the centre of the basket, two turns 95%, three turns 98.9% and four turns 99.8%. Four turns per dose stir the puck evenly. The needle paths stay 2.7 mm inside the basket wall, and the tips stop above the tapered bottom edge of the basket.
Made for the Robot basket
The body rests on the rim of the Cafelat Robot basket, and magnets in the seat help hold it there. Hold the body and turn the cap. The tool is made for doses up to about 20 to 22 g.
How to use it
- Pull the needle guard straight off.
- Set the tool on the rim of the Robot basket.
- Hold the body and turn the cap four times.
- Lift the tool off, push the guard back on until it clicks and tamp.
Materials and care
The tool is 3D printed in matte black PLA, and like any 3D printed part it shows fine layer lines on its surface. Clean it with a dry brush or with air. Four screws hold the cap: take it off to clean the gears or to change a needle.
