One station for the whole prep
The IKAPE 7-in-1 is a walnut tamper station, as IKAPE names the wood: one block of 162 × 155 × 77 mm with seven storage places. IKAPE lists the tamper, the portafilter basket, the coffee brush and puck screens among the tools it holds. The portafilter sits in a seat at the front corner.
The nut sets the height
A threaded nut on the portafilter seat raises and lowers the support, so you can set the tamping height for your own portafilter. IKAPE fits four non-slip feet under the block against slipping and wear, and shapes the top as a smiley face.
Choose the right size
The portafilter seat is sized by a ring, so one station covers the whole range.
- 51 and 54 mm: mount the wide ring (61 mm opening), for De'Longhi-size and Sage / Breville-size portafilters.
- mount the narrow ring (71 mm opening), for E61 group machines and other 58 mm portafilters.58 mm
- Not Rancilio: IKAPE states that the station does not take Rancilio machine portafilters.
How to use it
- Mount the ring that matches your portafilter: wide for 51 and 54 mm, narrow for 58 mm.
- Set the nut until the portafilter sits level in the seat.
- Distribute and tamp with the station carrying the weight.
- Return the brush, the screens and the tamper to their seats and brush the wood clean.
Materials and care
IKAPE names walnut wood and notes that the colour of the wood varies from batch to batch. The two rings are black.
Wipe the station with a barely damp cloth and dry it at once. Never soak it and never put it in a dishwasher. Let a rinsed portafilter and a wet brush drain before they go back into their seats, because standing water can lift the edge of a wooden seat.
