IKAPE Geometry Series Impact Tamper (51 to 58.35 mm)
The IKAPE impact tamper from the Geometry Series has a low, wide body with a broad top that you press with the whole palm. A trigger spring releases a calibrated 30 lb (13.6 kg) impact into the stainless steel base. A fitted anti-slip silicone stand comes with it. Sizes 51, 53.3 and 58.35 mm.

A broad top for a palm press
This IKAPE impact tamper from the Geometry Series has a low, wide body and a broad top, so the pressure comes from your whole palm. IKAPE states that this reduces hand fatigue when you tamp several shots in a row. The product photos show a black body with a wooden top insert.
A 30 lb impact release
A trigger spring inside the body holds the mechanism until you press, then releases a calibrated 30 lb (13.6 kg) impact into the base. IKAPE states that the impact gives the puck an even density throughout. IKAPE's photos show a stainless steel tamping face with concentric ridges.
A silicone base is supplied
Every Geometry Series tamper comes with a fitted anti-slip silicone base. The tamper stands in it between shots, and IKAPE states that it protects the stainless steel base from scratches.

- 58.35 mm: standard 58 mm baskets on E61 group machines, Gaggia Classic, Rancilio Silvia, Lelit, ECM, Profitec and La Marzocco.
How to use it
- Dose into a dry basket and break up clumps with a WDT tool or a distributor.
- Stand the portafilter on a mat or in a station, since an impact needs a base that will not move.
- Set the tamper flat on the coffee and press with the palm until the mechanism releases.
- Lift it straight off and stand it in the silicone base.
Materials and care
IKAPE describes the tamping base as stainless steel and the supplied stand as silicone.
Wipe the base after use and dry it, and brush dry grounds out of the ridges. Do not soak the tamper, because the trigger spring and the release mechanism sit inside the body. Wash the silicone stand with warm water and dry it before the tamper goes back in, since a damp stand keeps a wet base wet.
