IKAPE Matrix Precision Basket (54 / 58 mm, 18–22 g)
The IKAPE Matrix precision basket has 1783 laser-cut holes of uniform size, in food-grade 304 stainless steel. IKAPE states the even holes give a clearer, more homogeneous flavour, and recommends a finer grind and a paper filter. Sizes: 58 mm for 18, 20 or 22 g, or 54 mm for 18 g.

Uniform holes across the base
The IKAPE Matrix precision basket has 1783 holes, precision laser cut and even in shape and size. IKAPE states that uniform holes give a uniform extraction, and that a clearer, more homogeneous coffee flavour comes when all extraction conditions stay uniform.
The basket is made of food-grade 304 stainless steel, in silver or in a plated version in gold colour.
Grind finer, and use a paper filter
The holes in the base are relatively small, so IKAPE advises a finer grind. IKAPE also recommends a paper filter at the bottom of the basket during extraction, to keep fine coffee powder from passing through with the water.
Choose the right size
- 54 mm, 18 g: Sage / Breville machines with 54 mm baskets, including Barista Express, Barista Pro, Barista Touch and Bambino Plus. IKAPE makes only the 18 g dose in this diameter, 25.2 mm high in IKAPE's photo.54 mm
- 58 mm, 18, 20 or 22 g: IKAPE lists E61 machines such as La Marzocco, Isomac, ECM, Expobar, Lelit, Rocket, San Remo, Rancilio and Magister, and other 58 mm machines: Gaggia, Bezzera and Maxims. In IKAPE's photos the 20 g basket is 26 mm high and the 22 g basket 28 mm.58 mm
Choose the basket for the dose you weigh out.
How to use it
- Swap the stock basket in your portafilter for this one.
- If you use a paper filter, lay it at the bottom of the empty basket.
- Dose to the weight the basket is made for and level the bed.
- Tamp level and start the shot; grind finer if it runs fast.
Materials and care
The basket is food-grade 304 stainless steel, and the gold version is plated. Knock the puck out after each shot and rinse the basket under hot water. The holes are small, so soak the basket in a coffee cleaner regularly and check the base against the light after soaking: blocked holes show as dark points.
