This is a retractable WDT tool. Press it once and eight ultra-fine 0.4 mm needles deploy; flick it or turn it over and they retract. IKAPE states that a built-in spring gives click feedback for precise control and safe handling. Between shots the needles are put away and the tool stands upright in its stand.

Eight needles at 0.4 mm, and eight more in the box

Eight needles come fitted, which IKAPE describes as high-precision stainless steel. IKAPE states that the 0.4 mm needles go deep into the grounds and break up lumps for an even flow of water. Eight replacement needles in 304 stainless steel come with the tool, and IKAPE states that the needles are replaceable.

Rotate the tool counterclockwise to change the angle of the needles.

The stand

The tool comes with a stand. IKAPE states that it holds the tool upright, protects the needles from damage and keeps the bench tidy.

How to use it

Press the tool until the needles click out, and rotate it to the angle you want.
Grind the dose into the basket, then lower the needles to the bottom of it.
Stir in small circles for a few seconds, until the surface moves as one bed.
Lift the tool out, flick or invert it to retract the needles, and stand it upright in its stand.

Materials and care

IKAPE describes the fitted needles as high-precision stainless steel and the eight spares as 304 stainless steel, anti-rust.

Rinse the needles while the grounds are fresh and let them dry before you retract them, since damp grounds inside the body are hard to reach. Do not force the mechanism if it stiffens, and replace a bent needle instead of straightening it.
