Even water on the puck, a clean shower screen
The IKAPE espresso puck screen V1 is a perforated disc of 316 stainless steel that you lay on the coffee bed before locking the portafilter in. IKAPE states that it disperses the water evenly and increases the amount of dissolved solids in the espresso, for a better extraction.
IKAPE also states that the screen stops the puck from being pulled up against the shower screen when you take the portafilter out, so less coffee is left on the group head.
Where it sits in your puck prep
The screen is the last step before extraction. Break up the clumps with a WDT tool, level the bed and tamp, then lay the screen on top and lock the portafilter in.

- De'Longhi Dedica and other compact 51 mm machines.51 mm

How to use it
- Grind, distribute and tamp the coffee the way you normally do.
- Lay the screen flat on the tamped bed, centred in the basket.
- Lock the portafilter in and start the shot.
- Knock the puck out with the screen still on it, then lift the screen off.
- Rinse the screen under hot water before the next shot.
Materials and care
IKAPE names 316 stainless steel for the screen and presents it as reusable. It says the screen is easy to care for: rinse it and wipe it dry.
Rinse it under hot water after every extraction so coffee oils do not build up in the perforations, then wipe it dry. If the flow through the holes slows down, soak the screen in hot water and brush it through before the next shot.
