A thin steel screen on top of the puck
The IKAPE puck screen V2 is a thin, light disc of food-grade 304 stainless steel that sits on the tamped coffee bed, under the group head. IKAPE states that it spreads the water evenly over the coffee and reduces channeling. It is reusable: rinse it after the shot and it is ready for the next puck.
Hole pattern
In IKAPE's photos the screen has rows of large round openings, each one filled with small holes. IKAPE says the side with the large openings goes on top, facing the group head, so the water is divided more quickly. IKAPE describes the screen as lightweight, thin and durable.
What changes in the routine
The screen goes on last, after the tamp, and comes out with the puck. It takes up a little space above the bed, so check the headroom in your basket before you raise the dose. IKAPE also states that the screen protects the brewing head.

How to use it
- Dose, distribute and tamp the coffee level.
- Lay the screen flat on the bed, centred in the basket, with the large-hole side facing up.
- Lock the portafilter in and start the shot.
- Knock out the puck with the screen on it, then rinse the screen under hot water.
Materials and care
The screen is made of food-grade 304 stainless steel. Rinse it after every shot so oils do not dry in the holes, and wipe it dry. Once a week, soak it in a coffee cleaning solution and brush it through, because a screen with partly blocked holes spreads the water unevenly.
