A precision basket in two layers
The IKAPE Beehive basket (V3) is a precision espresso basket with two layers. The inner layer is an ultra-precision filter whose ultra-fine holes, IKAPE says, bring all of the ground coffee into even contact with the hot water. IKAPE states the honeycomb outer layer stabilizes the inner one, for a stable extraction and a durable basket.
The holes are precision laser cut, so their shape and size stay uniform. IKAPE says this spreads the water evenly through the coffee and keeps the flavour stable.
What it does to the cup
IKAPE states the inner basket works as a sieve for a clean extraction, and describes the flavour as clean and bright. IKAPE also states the V3 honeycomb is easier to clean than its V1 and V2 high-extraction baskets.
Choose the right size
- 51 mm, 16 g: IKAPE lists it for all De'Longhi machines and other 51 mm portafilters. IKAPE's photo shows this basket 24 mm high.51 mm
- 54 mm, 18 g: Sage / Breville machines with 54 mm baskets, including Barista Express, Barista Pro, Barista Touch and Bambino Plus. 25.2 mm high in IKAPE's photo.54 mm

How to use it
- Take the basket out of your portafilter and fit this one.
- Dose to the weight the basket is made for, break up the clumps and level the bed.
- Tamp level and start the shot.
- Adjust the grind after the first shot, since a new basket seldom runs exactly like the old one.
Materials and care
The basket is food-grade 304 stainless steel. Knock the puck out and rinse the basket under hot water after each shot. The honeycomb wall rinses through easily, but coffee oils settle in the fine inner layer, so soak the basket in a coffee cleaner regularly and check the base against the light afterwards.
