IKAPE V3 Calibrated Tamper, Transparent V2 (53.3 and 58.5 mm)

The second clear V3 tamper
This IKAPE transparent tamper is the second clear version of the V3, sold in 53.3 mm for Sage / Breville and 58.5 mm for 58 mm machines. A dual-stage spring gives 30 lb of tamping force. IKAPE states that, compared with the older clear model, the manufacturing and the materials were upgraded for greater durability.
A dual-stage 30 lb spring
The dual-stage spring is built into the body and gives 30 lb, about 13.6 kg, of tamping force. IKAPE states that the spring keeps the coffee puck even and that a gentle press is enough to finish the tamp.
Metal joints and a threaded base
IKAPE states that the joints use an aluminium alloy connection, so repeated pressing does not leave visible scratches. The base is large and threaded. IKAPE states that the threaded surface increases the contact area of the coffee grounds and makes their contact with the water more efficient.
Choose the right size
- Sage / Breville machines with 54 mm baskets, including Barista Express, Barista Pro, Barista Touch and Bambino Plus.53.3 mm
- IKAPE's larger size, listed for machines with 58 mm baskets: E61 group machines, Gaggia Classic, Rancilio Silvia, Lelit, ECM, Profitec and La Marzocco.58.5 mm
This tamper is not sold in 51 mm.
How to use it
- Dose into a dry basket and break up clumps with a WDT tool or a distributor.
- Stand the portafilter on a mat or in a station so it cannot rock.
- Press the tamper gently and straight down until the tamp is finished.
- Lift the tamper off without twisting it.
Materials and care
IKAPE names an aluminium alloy connection at the joints. The tamper is sold in transparent black or transparent red.
Wipe the base clean after use and dry it. Do not soak the tamper, and keep solvents and abrasive cleaners away from the transparent parts. Brush ground coffee out of the threads while it is fresh, before it dries hard.
