Gears do the stirring

This Picopresso WDT tool breaks up clumps and spreads the ground coffee in the basket before you tamp. You turn the cap, and five gears, a sun gear and four planets, carry 11 fine needles through the coffee bed. Each needle draws a spirograph curve, and every turn of the cap lays a new pass.

Four turns stir 99.8% of the reachable area. The outer needle path is 46.6 mm across.

Made for the Picopresso

The lower part of the tool is shaped to the Wacaco Picopresso portafilter, and the tool sits on it by a step. The needle depth is fixed: the tips reach 28.6 mm below that step, so there is nothing to set before you stir.

Screw the needle guard onto the body and the tips stay covered while you carry the tool. With the guard on, the tool is 69.4 mm tall.

How to use it

Unscrew the needle guard.
Set the tool on the Picopresso portafilter.
Hold the body and turn the cap four times.
Lift the tool straight off, screw the guard back on and tamp.

Materials and care

The tool is 3D printed in matte PLA, and like any 3D printed part it shows fine layer lines on its surface. Clean it with a dry brush or with air. Do not put it in the dishwasher.
