Spirograph WDT Tool for Flair Espresso

A spirograph WDT tool for the brew chamber of the Flair Espresso. Its sleeve slides over the chamber, and the cap drives five planetary gears that carry needles of 0.30 mm: 12 in the Classic build for the Flair Classic, Signature and NEO Flex, 15 in the PRO build for the Flair PRO and PRO 2. Four turns per dose.

Gears do the stirring

This Flair Espresso WDT tool breaks up clumps and spreads the ground coffee before you tamp. Turning the cap drives five gears, a sun gear and four planets, and they carry fine needles of 0.30 mm through the coffee bed. Each needle draws a spirograph curve, and every turn of the cap lays a new pass.

Four turns stir 99.7% of the reachable area with the Classic build and 99.5% with the PRO build.

Made for the brew chamber

The sleeve of the tool slides over the brew chamber, and the rim of the chamber rests on a step inside the tool. The gears stay 4 mm above that rim, so grounds stay out of the teeth, and the needle tips reach 32.5 mm below it.

Which version to choose

Choose your Flair in the options. The Flair Classic, Flair Signature and Flair NEO Flex options get the Classic build: 12 needles, a 47.0 mm body at the gears and a 51.0 mm sleeve.

The Flair PRO and Flair PRO 2 options get the PRO build: 15 needles and a straight 57.8 mm body.

How to use it

Pull the needle guard straight off.
Set the tool on the brew chamber so the sleeve wraps it.
Hold the body and turn the cap four times. Do not press down on the cap.
Lift the tool straight up and tamp. For storage, push the guard back on over the needles.

Materials and care

The tool is 3D printed in matte black PLA, and like any 3D printed part it shows fine layer lines on its surface. Clean it with a dry brush or with air. Do not put it in the dishwasher.
