IKAPE V3 Springback Rotary WDT Tool (51 / 54 / 58 mm)
The IKAPE V3 Mantis is an automatic WDT tool: one gentle press spins the needle plate through the coffee, and a spring returns it. The 58 mm size has nine 0.25 mm needles, the 51 and 54 mm sizes eight. You set the needle depth for your basket, and a magnetic dosing funnel and storage base come with it.

One gentle press spins the needles
The IKAPE V3 Mantis is an automatic WDT tool for breaking up clumps in ground coffee. Unlike IKAPE's V1 and V2 rotary tools, the V3 spins from one gentle press: the needle plate turns through the grounds and springs back by itself. IKAPE advises pressing gently, because a hard press throws coffee out of the basket.
Needles on a planetary layout
The 58 mm version carries nine needles of 0.25 mm; the 51 mm and 54 mm versions carry eight. IKAPE arranges them on a planetary layout with densely spaced rotating diameters, so one press covers the coffee bed quickly. IKAPE notes that the needle plate went from ten needles to nine (eight on the smaller sizes) after a change to its structure.
Depth set at the centre shaft
The needle depth adjusts to suit different portafilter baskets. Loosen the nut on the centre shaft, set the depth your basket needs, then tighten the nut again. IKAPE lists the 58 mm version for 16 g, 18 g, 20 g and 22 g extraction baskets.
Magnetic dosing funnel and storage base
The split magnetic dosing funnel can be used on its own or attached magnetically to the tool as one unit. It catches the ground coffee and keeps it in the basket while the needles spin. A storage base holds the tool between uses and keeps the coffee bar clean.

- Sage / Breville machines with 54 mm baskets, including Barista Express, Barista Pro, Barista Touch and Bambino Plus. Most IKAPE tools in this shop call that size 53.3 mm.54 mm
- E61 group machines, Gaggia Classic, Rancilio Silvia, Lelit, ECM, Profitec and La Marzocco. Other IKAPE tools here are sold at 58.35 mm or 58.5 mm for those same machines.58 mm
How to use it
- Set the needle depth for your basket and tighten the nut on the shaft.
- Put the dosing funnel on the basket and grind into it.
- Set the tool on the funnel and press gently; the plate spins and springs back.
- Lift the tool off, take the funnel away, then level and tamp.
Materials and care
Rinse the needles when grounds dry between them, and let the plate dry before it goes back on its base. Press the tool gently every time: the spring does the turning, so extra force only pushes coffee out of the basket.
